Description

CERES - Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies, is an award winning, not-for-profit, sustainability centre located on 4.5 hectares on the Merri Creek in East Brunswick, Melbourne.

It is also a thriving community, an urban farm, Australia’s largest deliverer of environmental education, an event and conference venue and a place rich with social and cultural diversity. CERES is recognised as an international leader in community and environmental practice.

Built on a decommissioned rubbish tip that was once a bluestone quarry, today CERES is a vibrant eco-oasis. 350,000 people visit CERES each year. Many more engage with us through our Sustainable Schools program which takes sustainable education into schools across the state.

CERES’ green technology displays, buildings, education and training programs and social enterprises (CERES’ Organic Market, Café, Permaculture Nursery and Fair Food organics delivery) demonstrate food security, sustainable agriculture, energy efficiencies, renewables and water conservation in action.

CERES is a model for a future with sustainability, innovation and connectedness at its heart.

Come, be welcome, you never know what you will find on our rambling paths.

23 September 2017 • Ancient Basketry with Adrienne Kneebone

Having arrived 5 minutes before 10, I was told by the (uninterested) receptionist that Adrienne would arrive to pick us up at 10am and to wait outside. Myself and three other participants, waited until 20 past 10 (with no communication from the facilitator or the receptionist) about what was happening. Finally one of the participants went in to ask, only to be handed a map and told (without direction) to find and walk to the venue. Being 7 months pregnant, it was not only inconvenient, but tiring to be left to do laps around Ceres looking for the venue in the sun. We finally arrived 40 minutes late, missing the initial direction/overview and feeling like we needed to catch up the whole time. The room was hot, there was no milk for the tea and the direction/handouts were unclear. Having paid a lot for this, I would not consider returning to Ceres after this experience.

01 September 2017 • Sourdough Bread Baking with Ken Hercott

Good fun baking class, lots of info, all questions answered. Very practical/hands on experience! Great to take home loaves and sourdough starter.

29 August 2017 • Natural Cosmetics with Taj Scicluna

This is a great workshop, really informative and well presented. Taj generously shares her knowledge with the participants. There is lots of hands on activity which is really enjoyable and a good way to learn. The products we made are wonderful and I have been using them and plan to keep making them for my use at home and for my friends. Thanks for running this workshop.
