After School Sewing Class for Kids & Teens

Description

You have asked and we have listened: We are bringing after school sewing classes back!

Students aged between 9 and 17 will love coming to our small group class to learn how to sew, be inspired by lots of great projects or get help with something they are already working on.

Suited to all skill levels, from absolute beginners to the HSC textile major, our friendly, qualified teacher will be able to explain anything from how to set up and use a sewing machine, to laying out and cutting fabric, reading a sewing pattern to more advanced sewing techniques.

We have seen some truly amazing projects come to life in our after school classes and would love to guide your son or daughter through making something unique and beautiful themselves. Emphasis is on teaching the proper techniques without stifling creativity, and passing on a great life skill to young people.

Class sizes are currently limited from four to seven students for lots of individual attention.

We ask that absolute beginners start on a customized tote bag for their first project. For this, they will need 1.5 meters of (non-stretch) cotton fabric and matching thread. You may have some funky vintage sheets or table cloths lying around the house which would work well, too. Feel free to bring any ribbon or other embellishments you may like to add. You can buy 1.8m of webbing for the straps or make your own from your bag fabric. We also have scrap fabric here for you to use to customize with patch pockets and appliques.

All other levels are welcome to bring in their own projects (we have suggestions, too, if you want to contact us for ideas) and the required materials.

If you don't already have a sewing kit, we have some for sale for only $10 each. Each kit inlcudes: a spool of thread, a Janome plastic bobbin (can be swapped for an additional spool of thread if desired), an unpicker, a wheel of pins, a thread clipper and a needle threader.

Cancelation & Refund Policy

Cancellation policy

To ensure that every student receives plenty of attention and opportunities to ask questions during the class, we make it a priority to keep our class sizes small. Classes also require a minimum number of students to run.

For that reason, your enrollment in the class is final and cancellations will forfeit the full fee However, you can also transfer your place at that class to a friend or family member at no extra cost, just let us know.

So please double check your availability before making a booking as there will be no exceptions. If you do know in advance that you may be unavailable for a specific day of the class, please contact us prior to discuss. We may be able to accommodate you in an alternate class to make up for the missed class (this option is only available if confirmed at the time of booking.)

Missed Classes

We run small group classes, most of them sized between four to six students only. This means that our classes are usually fully booked. With prior arrangement (upon booking a class), we may be able to offer a make-up class at the teacher's discretion, given there is a space available in a parallel class.

However, we regret we do not offer make-up classes for missed classes in general, due to the small class size mentioned. If we did, we would have to change our business model to larger size groups, or significantly increase our prices to accommodate the extra students.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us to discuss.

Catherine is a wonderful patient teacher, my daughter loves this class- it's the highlight of her week. She just finished making me a dress, sleeves, pleats & a full length zip.. perfect fit - it's truly amazing after only a couple of terms..!

My daughter has really enjoyed this class! It has a small intimate feel and so welcoming. She has made the loveliest things from the very first class and spends her week planning on what to sew next. Highly recommended.
