Artful Mending - breathing new life into old clothing

Does your favourite jumper have moth holes? Is your favourite dress looking a little tired?  Have you found an op shop treasure that you'd like to make your own? Learn to artfully mend your favourite clothes and thank them for all the fond memories by giving them a new lease of life.

Over three classes, learn basic techniques to invisibly mend clothing, and then take it further to embellish, update and artfully enhance!

Dates:  Sunday mornings, 27 August, 10 and 17 September.  Time: 10:30am-12:30pm

Class fee:  $125

About the tutor: Zara Parker is an accomplished artist/maker in several different crafts, and is a photographer by training.  She teaches a number of courses at Opendrawer, and also helps out with our in-store activities.

Class Schedule

3 x 2 hour classes, Sundays 10:30-12:30 27 August - Class 1, dealing with small holes in wool 10 September - Class 2, jazzing up your favourite cardi or jumper 17 September - Class 3, patching jeans

What you will learn
  • Learn techniques for invisible mending
  • Explore interesting ways to embellish your clothes

  • Take home your mended and embellished clothes along with the skills to fix more

What to bring
  • Basic sewing kit including scissors, pins & needles
  • At least one item of clothing that needs repairing
  • Embellishments such as beads, buttons, and ribbon (optional)

Comfortable clothes for crafting.

Cancelation & Refund Policy

If for any reason you decide that the workshop you have done or are doing does not suit you, then that is a personal decision and no refund will be given.

If Opendrawer cancels a workshop, you will be given a full refunds or can choose a replacement workshop to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is necessary due to insufficient enrolments.

Terms & Conditions

A $10 admin fee applies to all changes of date/workshop bookings.

Cancellations made within two weeks of the booked workshop will forfeit 50% of the advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of the workshop will forfeit the full advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

A minimum of five people are required for a workshop to run. Opendrawer reserves the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum booking is not achieved. Full refunds will be given or a replacement workshop offered to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is deemed necessary.Unfortunately, due to the workshop timetable no makeup classes are avaiable.
