Description

These rock amulets are based on Japanese basketry knots and other basketry techniques. They may be purely decorative or used as a contemplative focus for meditation. Historically, amulets were sacred, precious and imbued with healing powers.

All students must bring their own rocks to wrap. Rocks should be smooth (not polished), rounded, and fit comfortably in your hand (from approximately 6cm x 4cm up to 11cm x 5cm). Stones used in landscaping, available from local garden suppliers, are ideal. Note: Polished stones may be used but are more slippery therefore more difficult to handle.

The following are some of the materials that may be used for wrapping. Please bring these ONLY if you already have them. They are expensive and usually only a small quantity is required for this class. Some wrapping materials will be available for sale from the tutor including waxed linen, leather thonging, cane and copper

  • Waxed Irish linen thread (available online from Royalwood)
  • Leather thonging (available from Lefflers Leather)
  • Flat chair seating cane (available online from Royalwood)
  • Thick string or 2mm cord
  • Copper wire

Date: Saturday 14 October 2017  Time: 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

Class fee: $105

Materials fee:  Dependent on items bought from the tutor
