SHIBORI: INDIGO DYING
Give a handmade gift this Christmas!
Come and learn the beautiful and ancient Japanese resist-dyeing technique known as Shibori. In this class you will learn the basics of creating an indigo dye-bath using pre-reduced indigo crystals and Shibori techniques to generate unique patterns and designs.
Each piece will be unique and unexpected and use four different patterns/ styles, so you’ll learn several styles and methods. Shibori is fun to learn and something you can use at home to revamp your own furnishings and clothing!
ABOUT CLAUDIA HUSBAND
I am a practicing visual artist and textile designer trained in printmaking in both Australia and the United States, currently residing in Brisbane, Australia. I completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with the Queensland College of Art in 2012, and attended the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, USA to complete a summer workshop in aluminium plate lithography.
Working initially as an edition printer and workshop presenter in lithographic and intaglio printmaking, I expanded my practice into the world of textile design in early 2014, and have since worked as a textile artist both independently, and collaboratively with local fashion designers. I have designed the textiles for three consecutive collections with award-winning Australian fashion label Tengdahl, and have seen my designs launched on the runway at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival in both 2014 and 2015. Focusing primarily in print design, I also practice in dyed, woven and spun fibres; and am the primary owner and creator behind Tawny Threads.
I conduct workshops in textiles (indigo dyeing, shibori and tapestry weaving) and printmaking (traditional lithography and introductory intaglio) with Impress Printmakers Studio, Work-Shop Brisbane and independantly with highschools and creative businesses throughout Brisbane.
