Description

Melbourne based Upswitch creates unique upcycled lamps and homewares available at selected artists markets and online. Michael (aka Mister Upswitch) runs the business from his home based workshop and sources parts locally from markets, garage sales, hard rubbish and op shops.

In this 3 hour workshop you’ll get to create your very own upcycled wood cube lamp using reclaimed timber offcuts and old fence posts. You’ll be hand crafting it from scratch, which will include sanding, painting, polishing and assembling. The perfect gift for someone special, or to keep for yourself, these Wood Cube Lamps are one of Upswitch’s best sellers, and will make a unique addition to any home.

ABOUT MICHAEL AKA 'MISTER UPSWITCH'

“I’ve always loved collecting old stuff – things that other’s throw away or have no use for anymore. It breaks my heart to see so much hard rubbish thrown out into the streets, ready to go into landfill. So I started collecting things and fixing them to be reused or rehomed. Then I discovered a growing community of DIY-ers online who were reinventing discarded objects into amazing and useful new things, and felt an urge to start getting more creative with all of my old stuff. From there I started making upcycled lamps using anything I could think of, and now I’m always thinking of new ideas and ways to reuse forgotten objects.“

03 September 2016 • Upcycled Wood Cube Lamp Workshop

Starting with an unseemly block of wood and seeing how it changed as it was sanded and then stained was really rewarding. The finished product looks great. It was fun to do something with your hands for a change.
