Description

This is an introduction class to the wonderful world of using impasto(thick) acrylic painting techniques.  You will be painting on a 40cm x 40cm canvas using a palette knife, brushes and even your fingers!!

You will learn how to create an abstract background ( which is a painting in itself!) using flat brushstrokes, then how to apply the thickened acrylic paint to your canvas in the shapes of roses, anenomies, greenery and a clear glass vase.

This technique is often described as ‘yummy and luscious’ because of the thickness of the paint.

The finished painting looks great under a spotlight as all the textures are revealed.

We will have lots of fun in this workshop as we learn to mix colours and experiment with shapes to create this still life of flowers in a vase .

I want every student to take home a beautiful painting that you will be proud to hang on the wall.

This class is suitable for all skill levels, you can be an absolute beginner wanting to plunge into the art world and try out a painting class or be an experienced artist wanting to explore a new painting technique.

14 August 2019 • Intro to Palette Knife Painting

I enjoyed working with Palette knives on canvas - it was a fun medium to work with. My only suggestion would be to have a vase or 2 with flowers in them as still life examples to paint but overall it was a good workshop.

Had a great time and have recommended it to my friends.

Sadly this class did not live up to my expectations. Whilst the teacher was very friendly, I was hoping we would be taught the techniques of using palette knives, the differences between various palette knives and how they can be used etc., but sadly none of this was taught. We were shown how to mix different colours and then left to our own devices when it came to painting.
