Growing up in Zimbabwe, Jonathan Madzinga was only six years old when he began dabbling in the arts under the watchful eye of his father who, when not working in his trade, was himself a painter. Inspired by the Masters, from Monet to Van Gogh, he found his happy place in his dad’s workshop, where he would spend hours drawing and painting, and experimenting with acrylics and oils.

Today, at only 33, Jonathan is an accomplished artist. Besides participating in group exhibitions, he has mounted solo shows in six continents. Coming to Australia only in 2011, he has been an artist-in-residence at The Gold Coast Art School, teaching primary school students.

Jonathan’s style, characterised by vivid colours and bold brush strokes, depicts everyday scenes of Africa. Giving a glimpse of his heritage, he can fill entire galleries with art works based on just this theme. More recently, he crossed over to textile art and his prints have found their way on to t-shirts, sarongs, cushions, leggings, and more. He was even featured in a Miami Marketta fashion show some years back.

If you’re interested to learn acrylic painting, Jonathan is holding a whole-day workshop in Maleny QLD, this Saturday, 16th June 2018, from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. See you there!
