All's Fair in Love, War, and Money

Love is complicated enough without the subject of money. Or is it?

They say love makes the world go round, and while that’s true, differing attitudes towards money between a couple can stop even the best relationship dead in its tracks.

What often makes this situation worse is that society programs us to think of money talk within the relationship as rude behaviour; which makes it difficult for many people to open up and be honest about their financial situation.

In any serious relationship, it’s super important to be able to talk to your partner openly and honestly about everything, including money. So how do you make sure that the pesky dollar bill doesn’t get in the way of a deeply fulfilling relationship? Experts advise to start talking about money right away, even in the early stages of a relationship. And it does help to have said experts to start the conversation on this seemingly taboo subject.

SkilledSmart, in partnership with financial advisor and coach Tristan Scifo, invites couples to their free event to talk about money, and how to make it work as a couple. Questions like, “Should you combine finances with your partner?”, or, “How do you deal with different money perspectives and habits?” will be covered during the 2-hour workshop. At the end of the day, money is just one piece of the relationship puzzle. It should never become the be-all and end-all for scoring your relationship; use it instead as a tool to empower you to achieve your goals together.
