~ DAY 16 ~ KonMari clothes ~ SWIPE for piles and piles of clothes from various of my clients! 🤗 ~ JOYWORK ~ now you’ve set a date in your diary to KonMari your clothes make sure you prepare yourself mentally to pile up all the clothes you have in one spot. Can you imagine what it would look and feel like? Let me know in the comments below what % of your clothes pile you think does NOT spark joy. 😟 It can feel really overwhelming when you get ALL your clothes out. When confronted with it, it can be so shocking you’ll need to take a very deep breath. A client of mine even fainted upon seeing her staggering pile. Marie Kondo recommends doing this so you can feel the impact and truly see how many clothes you own. Then get through the pile once and for all asking yourself with each and every time whether it sparks joy. . ✨ ~ 2019 is the year of tidying - every day for the next 365 days I will help bring some joy to your life ~ In January we’re looking at clothes. #sparkjoy365 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #organizedhome #sparkjoy #mariekondo #mykonmari #konmari #konmarimethod #closetorganization #closetgoals #closets #walkincloset #wardrobestylist #wardrobes #wardrobegoals #wardrobeessentials #komono #wardrobestyling #clothesaddict #gettingorganized #stayorganized #opruimen #ontspullen #kleding #kledingkast #opruimcoach #opgeruimdstaatnetjes #clothes #clothesmentor #365challenge #loveforclothes

In the middle of it all is professional neat freak Marie Kondo. If you live under a rock and have never heard of her, imagine Bobby Berk, Zhang Ziyi (uncanny!), and every tiger mum during spring-cleaning season, all mixed together in a 1.4 metre-tall package. That’s Marie in a nutshell.

Seriously, have you ever seen so many before-and-after pics in your entire social life? Hey, if you binged on the series yourself and did your own tidying up, good on you; Marie’s work here is done. But if you already know that clutter isn’t cool - still waiting for that “spark of joy”, though - you can try and simplify your life the KonMari way with these four life-changing steps.

Visualise your ideal home

Imagine what you’d like to come home to every day. What does this place of yours look like? How does it make you feel? That’s the goal. Hold on to that image.

Gather everything, one category at a time

First, your clothes. Grab them all into one place, put them in a pile, and begin sorting. Start with your tops, bottoms, and clothes for hanging. Next, move on to your socks and underwear. You get the idea.

Do the same with your books (uh hey, hold on a minute), papers, komono (these are the small things, like cosmetics), and finally, your sentimental possessions. Easy peasy.

Now, the hard part: Discard, discard, discard

Marie has one rule here: Keep only what gives you a feeling of pure joy. Of course, you’ve lived with your possessions for a long time and we can just imagine how heart-wrenching it can be to say goodbye. Maybe you can start with the no-brainers like clothing that no longer fit, things that are broken, socks missing a pair, and so on. It gets easier, we promise.

Whatever’s left, put it in its own special place

Once you’re done decluttering, knowing where each item goes is an easy decision. This is a great exercise for two reasons. On one hand, you’ll never forget where anything is again, because you’re organising in a way that makes sense to you. And on the other, your home is now a lot more harmonious than when you first started tidying up; but you’ll also find that you’ve cleared your own mind of clutter and learned a life skill or two that you can use in other parts of your life, like at work or in your personal relationships. Talk about sparks of joy!

Now, the real question: How’s Marie’s calendar this summer and what time is she coming to our flat? Until then, it’s off to the op shops!

Clear your life the KonMari way!
