Trainer Bio:

Josh McLean learnt the skills of fish leather tanning in Lapland, Sweden based on master tanner Lotta Rahme’s work. While travelling Josh had the privilege of learning firsthand from Lotta at her tannery in Sigtuna, and is now operating his own small business here in Australia out of the Yarra Valley called The Bush Tannery. The knowledge of traditional tanning and leather-crafting has been handed down from various indigenous groups across the planet with a strong common message and one that Josh fully embraces: craft beautiful textiles that celebrate life, not destroy it.

This workshop was great! very informative and very hands on for those wanting to learn more about traditional tanning. Josh is a great teacher, leading a very interesting and informative theory session before getting into the hands on stuff, providing a much better understanding of whats actually going on!

Josh and his Introduction to Tanning course far exceeded my expectations. Josh was an amazing teacher and managed to simply and memorably cram years worth of knowledge into a one day course. He answered every question I had about this process and his mix of practical and theoretical was perfect. Highly recommend this course to anyone interested in this age old skill.
