This one comes with a warning: Be prepared to have your whole concept of running faster completely challenged. Could it really be this easy?
Habitual tension or stiffness felt during or after a run is a clear sign that an area is working harder than it needs to. Ironically it is the tension that we engage from pushing harder to run faster (or just to run!) that slows us down or causes injury in the long term. Moving faster requires greater range of motion and therefore more elasticity, so it is critical not to accumulate tension as you run. An exceptionally effective way to eliminate tension in running is to utilise the force of gravity for your forward momentum. That is, to engage a forward lean as you run.
When you do this, gravity takes the primary role of acceleration, which takes the pressure away from your tight muscles, redirects the workload into your core and reduces much of the impact forces from running.
At this workshop you will learn how to engage your lean effectively. This is not difficult to do; however it does require a clear understanding of exactly what areas you need to focus on as you run. Every runner is a little different, so the specific feedback that you will receive throughout this workshop is an essential part of the learning process. When you successfully engage your lean, the work load of running is distributed evenly throughout your entire system. This eliminates excessive tension and opens the gateway to ease and flow. The increase in speed coupled with the decrease in effort is quite mystifying at first. It completely challenges your concept of running faster. Could it really be this easy?
