OUR INTENTION FOR STUDENTS

Is for you to experience a relaxed atmosphere at our open working studio where you can learn new techniques and develop your own style. Most importantly we want you to have fun while expressing yourself creatively. See students adult gallery to view artworks created in past classes.

LESSONS ARE DESIGNED

  • to simplify the painting process, ideal for beginners, also allows advanced students to loosen up and work freely and quickly.
  • to show a new way to see shapes and colour
  • to encourage students to develop their own individual style
  • to experiment with different techniques and materials
  • with each term different so you keep learning something new
  • for a maximum of 10 students only

CLASS STRUCTURE AND CURRICULUM

Though each term the theme and objective for classes are not the same, we start the first four weeks with exercises using different techniques for the students to experiment with. The last four weeks of classes are free choice, a time for the students to work on subjects that inspire them.

ACRYLIC PAINT: We recommend you buy good quality paints. Don’t buy supplies in $2 shops the quality is very poor. There are three professional art shops in the northern beaches, Art Smart in Seaforth which also does framing, Eckersleys in Brookvale and The Art Shop in Mona Vale.  We use and recommend you buy Mattise Structure Acrylics. If you are on a budget and can only afford a few good quality paints buy the following 3 primary colours (in cool), with careful mixing you will be able to get almost any colour. We find however, we get the best results and when we have a combination of both warm and cool, blues and reds.

ACRYLIC MEDIUMS:  At some stage you may be using some or all of these: Open medium (to slow down the drying process, Impasto Medium or Modelling Paste are similar make sure you get the really thick stuff- shouldn’t be the cheap runny product. Gel Medium used for glazing and collage.
