Description

INDOOR GARDENING & KOKEDAMA | Lilian Yangot

A kokedama is a living organic plant sculpture, suspended in its own ball of soil wrapped in moss and held together with string.  Kokedama is often considered to be a variant of bonsai.  Both are Japanese techniques using nature as a sculptural form.

In this workshop, you will learn the technique of neat twinning, where the jute twine is spaced as symmetrically as possible to form the ball of your kokedama.

You'll make 2 Kokedamas our workshop - a small and medium size.

All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes you do not mind being soiled.

This is a 2.5 workshop and you’ll go home with two wonderful handmade kokedama.

Your teacher Lil specialises in neatly twinned kokedamas or mossballs. She started collecting indoor plants late in 2016 and as the collection grew, she wanted to make something quite unique to showcase her plants. And in 2018, Where The Green Things Are was born, a small business specialising in kokedamas and indoor plants.

In the not so distant past we were able to explore and engage in a creative space within the boundaries of our domestic environment. More recently with the advent of mass produced furnishings and readily available home decor, coupled with a trend toward apartment living and the rise of the dual income family then this space for the creative endeavour within the domestic sphere has all but disappeared.

In recognition of this the Guild of Objects is a space that supports and holds space for all to pursue, source or explore their own innate creativity. The Guild provides a space for artists, craftspeople and makers to sell their products. The Guild runs workshops in a beautiful home like environment that gives everyone the opportunity to explore their own creativity and finally the Guild organises and runs design, craft and art tours to Japan, Bali and France in order to provide a forum to explore the world through a creative lens.

The Guild is a space that honours the notion of Connection through Creativity

Connections with ones creativity, connection with ones self and connection to others through mutual pursuit.

Come and visit us at 67 Hardware Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000.

My teenage daughter and I attended this class together. It was an amazing time to bond and we both came away with beautiful kokedamas which we are thrilled with.

Loved the recent Kokedama workshop with Lil. She was informative, patient and attentive. And we came away with 2 of our very own Kokedamas! Nicky provided a warm welcome from the moment I arrived and with bubbles and chocolate on offer, what's not to like. Guild of Objects provides a lovely space in which to learn a range of creative skills.

I had a lovely afternoon learning to make kokedamas. The teacher was really organised and everything was provided. I left with two beautiful kokedamas. I would highly recommend the course. There was also delicious snacks and drinks.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

The Guild of Objects has put together an action plan to mitigate the risks from coronavirus (Covid-19).

The Guild of Objects acknowledges the health risks of people gathering together but sees events such as workshops are a vital part of our community and can continue to be a place of safety and enjoyment if everyone plays their part.

The objective of the Guild is to support Artists, Makers and Craftspeople and as such our workshops provide financial support for the artists who work with us.

At all our events we will be putting in place additional hygiene measures in order to help minimise the possibility of contamination. This will include hand washing facilities and an increase in the frequency of cleaning of shared spaces.

We have limited the number of participants at each workshop to 12 as this will ensure that we can maintain the recommended social distance between participants.

If you are ill or have been placed into home isolation the Guild will allow you to transfer into a later workshop or if you give us 48 hours’ notice we will provide a refund.

For all clients whom we are currently mentoring, we will continue to work with you.  If, however you are unwell or have been placed in home isolation then we will look to using   Zoom as a means of continuing your mentoring.

While we have put hygiene measures and increased our efforts to minimise contamination, attendance at our workshops is at your own risk.

We value your continued support in helping keep the Guild going during these difficult times.

Please remember that our online store remains open and will work tirelessly to ensure that there are no delays in dispatching your orders.

We will continue to update and change our policy as more information is known. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
