Description

Indoor Gardening & Kokedama

A kokedama is a living organic plant sculpture, suspended in its own ball of soil wrapped in moss and held together with string.  Kokedama is often considered to be a variant of bonsai.  Both are Japanese techniques using nature as a sculptural form.

In this workshop, you will learn the technique of neat twinning, where the jute twine is spaced as symmetrically as possible to form the ball of your kokedama.

You'll make 2 Kokedamas our workshop - a small and medium size.

All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes you do not mind being soiled.

Your Guild Experience

This class is being run by the Guild of Objects. We are a social enterprise whose mission is to support artists and craftspeople of all skill levels in their creative journey, whether they’re established professionals or simply curious about a new artform.

All of our classes are artist led and the income that we generate from these workshops goes directly to supporting our creative community. Our classes are run out of our very cool and conveniently located studio in Hardware Lane, Melbourne.

We understand the importance of connection, which is why most of our workshops are limited to approximately 12 participants. This way you get quality one-on-one tuition time with your teacher while also having time to chat with your classmates. Yes, of course, we serve you a sneaky glass of prosecco or a cold beer - we cater for all our students!

So if you’re looking for a relaxed creative experience in a really lovely location and the chance to meet new people, we welcome you to join us at the Guild.

Absolutely loved the Kokedama class. The new Hardware lane studio is amazing, as was the warm welcome. The teachers are great and make it easy to follow & participate fully. I’ve met some great people in attending these classes, plenty of laughs and just a damn good way to spend a couple of hours, while learning a new skill. Highly recommend jumping on board.

What a treat after lockdown to attend the Kokedama workshop at Guild of Objects. Lot of laughs, good company and I learnt a new trick. I even got to bring home the spoils! A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

The Guild of Objects has put together an action plan to mitigate the risks from coronavirus (Covid-19).

The Guild of Objects acknowledges the health risks of people gathering together but sees events such as workshops are a vital part of our community and can continue to be a place of safety and enjoyment if everyone plays their part.

The objective of the Guild is to support Artists, Makers and Craftspeople and as such our workshops provide financial support for the artists who work with us.

At all our events we will be putting in place additional hygiene measures in order to help minimise the possibility of contamination. This will include hand washing facilities and an increase in the frequency of cleaning of shared spaces.

We have limited the number of participants at each workshop to 12 as this will ensure that we can maintain the recommended social distance between participants.

If you are ill or have been placed into home isolation the Guild will allow you to transfer into a later workshop or if you give us 48 hours’ notice we will provide a refund.

While we have put hygiene measures and increased our efforts to minimise contamination, attendance at our workshops is at your own risk.

We value your continued support in helping keep the Guild going during these difficult times.

Please remember that our online store remains open and will work tirelessly to ensure that there are no delays in dispatching your orders.

We will continue to update and change our policy as more information is known. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
