Description

Beginner's Lampworking Class - Learn to Make Glass Beads

Learn how to make lampwork glass beads on a torch. Melt glass and manipulate the glass while hot into a bead and decorate the surface with dots, drizzle and frit.

Learn to shape a bead into a square, bicone and round bead.  Moulds will be available to use in the last hour of class.

Keep to simple, similar colour and small beads and you will have 10 beads for a bracelet. We can make these into jewellery in another class or make them up yourself.

Beads need to be annealed to make them strong. You will have to come back and pick up your beads from the Guild of Objects or pay for postage.

This workshop is for beginners. All equipment supplied for the two and a half hours. Burner, hand tools and protective eye-wear. Students between the ages of 13 and 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear old clothing and of non-synthetic material.

Your Guild Experience

This class is being run by the Guild of Objects. We are a social enterprise whose mission is to support artists and craftspeople of all skill levels in their creative journey, whether they’re established professionals or simply curious about a new artform.

All of our classes are artist led and the income that we generate from these workshops goes directly to supporting our creative community. Our classes are run out of our very cool and conveniently located studio in Hardware Lane, Melbourne.

We understand the importance of connection, which is why most of our workshops are limited to approximately 12 participants. This way you get quality one-on-one tuition time with your teacher while also having time to chat with your classmates. Yes, of course, we serve you a sneaky glass of prosecco or a cold beer - we cater for all our students!

So if you’re looking for a relaxed creative experience in a really lovely location and the chance to meet new people, we welcome you to join us at the Guild.

I very much enjoyed my glass bead making introductory workshop. The venue was comfortable and all necessary equipment was provided. Class size was small and so there was a lot of personal attention from the tutor; this meant participants were able to progress quite quickly. The tutor was approachable, very experienced and happy to share her knowledge. I thoroughly recommend this class!

Excellent class. Pauline is a fantastic instructor. Though challenging it’s not as hard as you might think, definitely give this a go when face to face classes resume. Guild of Objects were lovely hosts in a convivial setting.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

The Guild of Objects has put together an action plan to mitigate the risks from coronavirus (Covid-19).

The Guild of Objects acknowledges the health risks of people gathering together but sees events such as workshops are a vital part of our community and can continue to be a place of safety and enjoyment if everyone plays their part.

The objective of the Guild is to support Artists, Makers and Craftspeople and as such our workshops provide financial support for the artists who work with us.

At all our events we will be putting in place additional hygiene measures in order to help minimise the possibility of contamination. This will include hand washing facilities and an increase in the frequency of cleaning of shared spaces.

We have limited the number of participants at each workshop to 12 as this will ensure that we can maintain the recommended social distance between participants.

If you are ill or have been placed into home isolation the Guild will allow you to transfer into a later workshop or if you give us 48 hours’ notice we will provide a refund.

While we have put hygiene measures and increased our efforts to minimise contamination, attendance at our workshops is at your own risk.

We value your continued support in helping keep the Guild going during these difficult times.

Please remember that our online store remains open and will work tirelessly to ensure that there are no delays in dispatching your orders.

We will continue to update and change our policy as more information is known. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
