Basket Weaving with Wild Baskets (15/10/17)

Description

Learn how to weave two styles of baskets, one easy and one more complex, with Judith from Wild Baskets.

Using natural materials, sourced from the garden & the bush, participants will learn how to weave their own baskets from natural fibres supplied on the day.This workshop will teach two basic techniques for making your own baskets as well as how to collect and store materials to make your own at home.

Participants will take home 2 uniquely theirs handmade baskets and the skills to make many more. You will begin by making a melon basket and if time permits you can make a second basket in a bowl style (wheel and spoke method).

It is recommended participants wear clothing that can dirty as the process is a bit messy (no white clothing).  

**Please bring along secateurs if you have some. 

 All materials provided. If you wear glasses don't forget them. 

Suitable for adults and children 12+.  This workshop requires patience.

Class Schedule

Workshop will be held on October 15 from 10am-12:30pm. Participants are welcome to stay an extra 15 mins if required to finish their baskets.

What you will learn
  • Learn techniques on how to weave 2 styles of baskets- Melon Basket and Bowl (wheel and spoke technique) Basket.
  • Learn which natural materials can be used.
  • Learn how to collect, prepare & store plant materials and how to dispose of leftover waste materials with a focus on weed species.
What you will get
  • Participants will go home with 1 (and maybe 2) uniquely theirs handmade baskets and the skills to make many more.

  • Bring a bag to carry home your new baskets
  • If you wear glasses please bring them.

These workshops are conducted by some of Brisbane’s finest artisans to give you a hands on approach to learning your new skill. With many classes also providing the materials, all you need to do is turn up and start creating!

Enclosed Footwear is required by participants at every workshop. Hands On Brisbane reserves the right to refuse entry to a workshop if the attendee is not wearing suitable attire.

Participants are required to sign a waiver at the workshop they attend. Participants are to follow instructions, safety precautions and advice when given.

Participants are required to arrive on time.  Our workshops will start on time.  If you are not attending on the day please contact Hands On Brisbane using the contact information in the mail out that is sent a few days before the event.  If you are unable to attend on the day please pass your ticket on to a friend.  As we prepare in advance for the number of attendees we are unable to offer you a refund.
