Preparation required before class:

Students need to be able to warp a loom with 72 ends at 6epi, 12” wide, 3 metres long with straight threading and 2 floating selvedges (yarn supplied in December 2019)


About the Workshop

This workshop is for weavers who want to explore and experiment with different rug techniques and materials

Your tutor Gerlinde Binning is Master weaver from a German family who have been rug weavers since 1946. I taught weaving at MTC and RMIT for 20 years.

  • How to weave flat surface rugs • How to weave textured rugs
  • How to weave rugs from recycled rags
  • Experiment with a combination of techniques
What you will get
  • Students will produce samples on their own warp of the following (singly and in combinations)
  • Fleece rug • Rag rug • Pile rug
  • Twill rugs • Plaited rugs • Crocheted rugs

What to bring
  • Material Fee $10.00
  • Students need to bring a variety of weft materials for example carpet yarn, a variety of fleece recycled fabric, leather, sheepskin

The Guild's aim is to bring together those who practise handweaving, spinning and allied crafts and to help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills by discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of quality resource materials.

Our Guild rooms house an excellent library and craft supply, sell members work and host a wonderful range of interest groups, classes and workshops.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations and refunds

The Guild reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient numbers. If we cancel the workshop you will be notified and will be issued with a 100% refund.

If you decide to withdraw 7 or more days prior to the workshop/course date the Guild will retain a 10% administration fee.

If you decide to withdraw less than 7 days before the workshop/course date the Guild will retain 100% of your workshop fee.

No refunds for missed classes.
