NOTE: This popular workshop is normally based in Perth, and this is the fifth time it is being offered in Melbourne, at the convenient location of Bentleigh East.
“I came to your workshop and found peace, and dare I say it joy. There is much kindness and love in you and I thank you for sharing that with a room full of strangers. I’ve never felt so proud of anything as I do my four paintings. Thank you for a little respite and a lot of hope.” –Deepa Nadarajah, Analyst, Melbourne
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
Absolute Beginners: You’ve never EVER painted before, but you’re curious, maybe even a bit scared. You don’t have a clue where to begin. This one day intensive painting class will be perfect for you! You’ll be immersed in your creativity and learn exactly how to create beautiful textured paintings in no time. No more fear of the unknown, I’ve got you covered :)
Now And Then Dabblers: You paint ‘a little’ from time to time. You love it, but you never seem to have the time to learn ‘properly’. Painting seems to be an indulgence, where’s the time for it? No worries – my seven step process and intensive but fun approach will give you ‘proper’ structure to build your practice around!
WHAT IS THIS WORKSHOP ABOUT?
Have you ever looked longingly at a beautiful piece of art, and thought, “I wish I could do that, but I don’t have a creative bone in my body!” Do you yearn to express your creativity, but you just don’t know how? Are weekly art classes impossible, because you just can’t spare the time?
If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then you’re in the right place, Painting for Beginners was designed just for you!
This is a ONE DAY intensive, where you learn my unique seven step process to create beautiful, strong, abstract paintings from scratch – even if the last time you painted, your mum said, “that’s lovely, darling!” and popped it on the fridge.
The day is packed with content, insanely busy and so much fun! You will be guided along one of the many pathways to creating art, and totally surprise yourself at just how much you learn in just ONE day. (And best of all – no need to buy anything – just rock up with nothing but your lunch, as ALL materials, along with extensive notes, are provided).
I will personally guide you, step-by-step, through the very same process that I use to create my own art (you can see my work over here www.maliniparker.com). We start with the absolute basics and progress steadily on to using texture and colour, making effective compositions, and how to finish paintings. And friends, there is more to making art than just learning ‘techniques’ – during this special workshop, I share my secrets, de-construct my process, demonstrate each step, we have a laugh or two, and before long, you would have uncovered (or recovered!) your creativity.
ORIGINAL ART CREATED BY YOU!
By the end of the workshop you will have several beautiful, textured paintings to take home. All that anxiety about the creative process vanishes! You learn solid techniques that you can apply over and over again, as you go on to develop your unique style.
Warning: If you are looking for a relaxed art class where you are left alone to paint for hours … then this would not be for you! Painting for Beginners is an intensive art class where I offer my heartfelt, useful, practical instruction, (no spare time!), and you have loads of fun.

Hi! It was a wonderful experience where I learnt how to let go yourself without making an attachment for the painting which is something New for me and it did spell a magic.I always wanted to paint abstract but there was no inspiration and know how to go for it.Thanks to Malini now I'm excited to try out my own loose myself and enjoy the creation.
I learnt to use paper to create texture in my painting and to use acrylics differently to what I had been doing. Malini's style is based on her personality; warm and effective. She is easy to relate to and her teaching methods come from a place of genuine caring.
Calm, relaxed, openhearted. A beautiful respite and encouragement to be creative
