Here is your opportunity to create your own unique winter coat to suit your style. Suitable for all skill levels, we will work together, step by step. The Burda pattern 6736 is designed to be warm, flattering but most of all, suitable for beginners. Your coat will be individualized by your fabric choice with options to make either the long length or shorter style. Its looser fit makes it a great layering piece. The 3 easy to follow sessions will start on your creation from the get go by cutting out the pattern with your fabric. Detailed recommendations of fabric choices, amount required and possible retail outlets will be emailed after booking.

Nicola Mathieson is a talented and prize winning seamstress. She has a vast fashion experience having tailored wedding and bridesmaid dresses for many years. For her sewing is a fun, social, practical and functional activity to share with others. Her focus is on teaching the sewing skills to make fashionable and wearable clothes to flatter every body type.

What you will learn
  • How to understand and use a commercial pattern
  • Construction skills including inserting sleeves, bust darts and facings.
  • Finishing techniques including hemming and creating a button hole.
What you will get
  • An awesome finished jacket you can wear for seasons to come
  • Your own copy of Burda style 6736 so you can make more.
  • Use of sewing machines, overlockers, scissors, pins, etc. during classes

What to bring
  • You will need to bring fabric for your jacket. Wool fabrics, boucle and fulled fabrics are recommended. For a long coat you need 3 meters; for the short you need 2.6. Darn Cheap Fabrics have a great range at reasonable prices, and you can also try Super Cheap Fabrics on line, or Spotlight.If you have any questions feel free to email us at MetroArtDept@gmail.com. Closures will be discussed in class in relation to your pattern choices.
  • You may bring your own machine if you’d like, but we do have machines for you to use at Metro Art Dept.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

All booking withdrawal requests for our courses must be made in writing to metroartdept@gmail.com

Requests for transfer of booking or full refunds must be at least 48 hours before course commencing. Booking withdrawals made within the 48hrs prior to commencement will be non-refundable, except for exceptional circumstances judged at our discretion. No refunds will be given for withdrawal after the course begins.

We understand that things happen and due to unforseen circumstances you may have to miss a session in multiple session workshop. Missed classes will not be refunded. Provisions can be made to catch up on content missed.

We reserve the right to cancel classes/courses due to minimum numbers. Notification of cancellations will be as soon as possible and usually be sent at least 48 hours beforehand. Under these circumstances a transfer or full refund will be fulfilled on our behalf

If for unforseen circumstances one class/session, from a course, needs to rescheduled/cancelled we will endeavour to seek a satisfactory resolution of another session provided or appropriate reimbursement.

By accepting the terms and finalising payment you agree to the following terms. The person who makes the booking does so on behalf of the individuals attending.

Bookings are allocated upon receipt of full payment of the listed price.

Payment card through the WeTeachMe booking set-up is through a secure payment service. We do not gather or retain any card details.

For the benefit of everyone participating in the course we ask that you attend all of the sessions, when possible, and arrive on time and prepared.

At Metro Art Dept we value a safe, respectful and collaborative learning environment for the benefit of all of our customers and instructors. To satisfy such, we reserve the right to refuse service/entry to anyone not meeting acceptable standards.

If you have any disability or medical condition that requires us to make special requirements, please email us at least 5 days prior to the course commencing.

In participating in the classes you are accepting that you may be photographed as part of documentation or for advertising purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or would like a particular image removed from advertising please contact us via email.

Filming or photographing the contents of the classes is not permitted without our prior consent.

Any resources supplied as part of the courses are for your use only and are not to be reproduced unless permission is granted.

We provide the basics of tea and coffee, however we don’t cater to all the possibilities of this. You will need to provide your own additional products to satisfy any specific dietary requirements with access to a fridge and microwave.

We provide the course that is advertised. Outcomes can be directly affected by the input of the customer. If you feel that the course did not meet your expectations then please contact us via email for a possible resolution.

You will be responsible for the care of belongings brought to the workshop. We do not accept responsibility for possessions or other items brought to the workshop by you.
