Preserving Know-How: Savoury Ways with Tomatoes

Description

Growing tomatoes can be incredibly rewarding and their productivity can leave you with a glut that demands to be turned into delicious sauces and preserves. And even if you don't grow them, you can always make the most of the seasonal varieties available over this period to make your own bottles and jars to last you through the winter. In this workshop, we cover different preserving techniques, including bottling, dehydrating, making sauces, passata, pickles and chutneys, as well as some traditional Italian techniques with tomatoes. You get to taste and then take home all of the preserves made on the day, as well as enjoy a delicious morning tea from the kitchen of My Green Garden. Please advise of any dietary restrictions.

Getting back to basics is what My Green Garden is about.

This is done by providing an experienced resource for presentations, demonstrations and workshops on many aspects of sustainable gardening practices, especially in the area of growing and preserving food.

With many years working in the nursery industry, backed up with education training and experience, Maria from My Green Garden knows how to cater and adjust content for the various levels of expertise present in different groups.

Making it practical, achievable and fun is what we're about and having most classes and workshops run from a home setting in leafy Donvale, shows that you don't need specialist equipment to get great results. We focus on using tools and ingredients that most kitchens or gardens would already have. Above all, it is about giving participants the know-how and the confidence to do it themselves!

17 February 2018 • Preserving Know-How: Savoury Ways with Tomatoes

My Green Garden has done it again - another fun and informative class. Maria has to be one of the best tutors in Melbourne. If the subject relates to food, she knows how to pass on her knowledge and experience in ways that give confidence to even the most amateur cook. Thanks, Maria - I'll be back!

What a wonderful day with Maria and lots of tomatoes! As per usual, Maria provides all her tips, recipes in written format as part of the take home; along with an array of goodies, some to try immediately, some to wait a bit. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, the morning tea (really a wonderful lunch!) included many delicious homemade delights. Maria was also kind enough to cater to my vegan diet. A great day, highly recommend to anyone who loves tomatoes!!

I attended Maria's Preserving Know-How: Savoury Ways with Tomatoes Workshop. a very productive day, I learnt a lot of techniques on preserving tomatoes and learnt how versatile tomatoes are for preparing savoury and sweet items. Maria is very knowledgable on this topic and has a very calm way of teaching. Enjoyed the lovely and generous morning tea of Scones, Jam and homemade spreads. I also got to take home a lot of goodies. Thanks Maria would love to attend more of your workshops.
