Description

It's hard to learn how to look after trees from diagrams and descriptions in books so come along to this suburban garden which boasts over 30 fruit trees of different varieties, all in varying stages of maturity. From traditionally grown trees to espaliered and vines, the garden in Donvale provides a valuable teaching tool to discuss winter fruit tree maintenance. This includes basic pruning as well as the regimes used for keeping pesky insects and fungal issues at bay. You will help prune various trees as you start to recognise unproductive wood, fruiting spurs and cross-overs, so you get to take home this experience to work on your own trees at home. See how to make up sprays and learn how to use them for maximum effectiveness in conjunction for caring for the soil. We also discuss the difference between pruning in winter and in summer and when to do what.

The workshop runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm which gives us time to enjoy a tea or real coffee and some home made goodies made with the fruits from these trees. If the forecast is looking doubtful, we will cancel it from the day before and notify you. However, it will be cold, so please dress according to the weather as most of the workshop will be carried out outside amongst the trees.

BOOKING CONDITIONS Bookings are considered final once payment is made. If you need to cancel, at least 7 days notice is required in order for a refund, less a 10% administration fee. For any cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop date, you will forfeit your fee unless the place can be filled from a waiting list (you willl be refunded less the 10% admin fee). If you would like to transfer to another workshop, it must be done with at least 7 days notice before the start of the workshop.

01 August 2017 • Winter Fruit Tree Maintenance

We've done a couple of other classes about tree pruning, but Maria's class leaves them for dead! Her knowledge of fruit trees and their requirements is amazing, and her generosity in sharing that knowledge is really appreciated. The class is exceptional, and we highly recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about their fruit trees and how to care for them. Besides that, the morning tea we were served was absolutely delicious, including many of Maria's own preserves and scones.

The class was excellent and informative. The topic of winter maintenance and pruning of fruit trees was well covered and extremely well presented, excellent value for money. I really enjoyed the overall content of the day and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.
