This course is a comprehensive introduction to the mould making process. Students will learn the basics of mould making, from theory to practice, creating their own one and two piece moulds and learning the process of slipcasting. Students will be able to bring along their own ideas/objects for making a mould and discuss the viabilities of certain shapes/forms for mould making. Students can take their idea from prototype through to finished cast.
Week 1 - An introduction to the basics of mould making
Week 2 - Making a one-piece drop out mould
Week 3 - First steps to making a two-piece mould
Week 4 - Continuing the process of making a two-piece mould
Week 5 - Completion of making a two-piece mould

Raymond Laurens Tutor Profile
Raymond has been involved in the ceramics industry for over half his life. Learning mould making stills at KAARL Moulds & Ceramics, he then completing an Advanced Diploma in Ceramics at Holmsglen TAFE. From there he started his own mouldmaking business, manufacturing for many high profile artists before taking on a roll as Producation Manager at Elliot Golightly. He is now Director of Northcote Pottery Supplies and runs our mouldmaking courses and one-day workshops.
Raymond is fascinated with the beauty of imperfection and finds working with moulds the perfect way to explore this, manipulating seemingly identical slipcast forms to create quite individual works of art.
