Learn the age-old technique of forming pots on the wheel. In this six week course (one class per week) you will learn the fundamental skills of wheel throwing. This will include centring clay on the wheel, throwing cylinder and bowl forms, and turning. You will also be introduced to a range of decorative techniques, including underglaze colours, glaze and tissue transfers. At the completion of the course you will have your own glazed pots and bowls to take home and use. This course is ideal for beginners.
The cost of this course includes one bag of clay, use of wheel and tools, firing, and materials for decorating and glazing. Our pottery supply shop stocks a wide variety of products you may wish to explore further and is open during business hours. This course will have a maximum of 10 students.

Ian Sigley Tutor Profile
Ian is a traveling artist from Houston, Texas where he studed ceramics and sculpture at the University of Houston. During his studies, Ian’s work was displayed in emerging artist shows and Pop up shops. Ian was a feature/demo artist for Empty Bowls Houston in 2013 where he made and donated 100 bowls. Currently, Ian’s work focuses on functionality with sculptural aesthetic; using a pastel palette and decorative stamping techniques.
We learnt throwing, glazing and trimming methods. The highlight was definitely the throwing. An extra hour added to the class could have been beneficial or more one on one support from our teacher. The class felt rushed and for the cost I was disappointed with the amount of work I ended up with.
