Here's your chance to take part in an exciting traveling textile exhibition with noted textile artist Dijanne Cevaal.
Whether you are a total beginner who iswilling to have a go, or an experienced textile maker, you're welcome. You don't even need to be Australian to join the fun - perhaps your international visitor would enjoy a creative encounter with the Australian Bush (in the comfort of our air conditioned studio)? Discounts apply if you bring a friend.
During the 4 hour class you will choose one of 4 different panels inspired by the flora of the Australian bush and designed by Dijanne Cevaal: Gumnuts & Gumleaves (30x30cm), Banksia Cones & Flowers (30x30cm), Unfurling Fern Frond (30x30cm), and Blackwoods Dancing (22x45cm). Each design is available on different hand-dyed fabrics, so each is unique before you begin adding your own creative spark.
You can be as wild and bushy as you like and given the Australian penchant for making it up as you go be as creative as you want:
All submitted pieces will be included in the exhibition which will travel for a period of one and a half to two years around Australia/New Zealand - and maybe even France in 2018! The exhibition will start touring form the middle of May 2017 and pieces will need to be submitted by the beginning of May 2017. That gives you time to finish your piece at home after the workshop, if you really go to town. You don't have to submit your piece if you fall in love with it & can't bear to part with it.
Materials Fee: $25 includes 1 x fabric panel of your choice, plus materials for embellishing. There is also a $20 admin fee to join the exhibition, to help cover the cost of mounting the travelling exhibition, and to post your piece back to you when the exhibition finishes.
Ideas for using thread to embellish printed fabric was the focus of the workshop. Stitches and ideas were taught and shared in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I rediscovered the relaxation of hand stitching.
