Description

Established in 2009 and run by professional artists and highly qualified teachers, Fitzroy Painting for Beginners began when a need for a ‘back to basics’ method of teaching was identified.

This 4 - week course is designed for the complete beginner as an introduction to the fundamentals of oil painting, including how to select the right mediums and materials, preparing to paint, basic colour theory, techniques and composition. Class sizes are limited to ensure one-on-one tuition.

You will learn the basics of oil painting through a series of exercises, making paintings as you go, and should be able to continue painting with confidence at home. Our studio-based classes are fun and informative and include wine, cheese and refreshments to keep you going! 02 April 2018 • 4-Week Beginners Oil Painting Course: Level 1

This course was an enormous disappointment. Virtually all we did was rent studio space. There was no teaching at all, no theory or instruction in technique - except how to wash our brushes in the first week. The whole 3 hours of the first week was taken up with painting a colour wheel great in itself, but with no real instruction. The other 3 weeks were taken up with painting still lifes, one in grey scale and the others in colour - again absolutely no instruction on technique, perspective or anything else. I'm afraid I can only give this course 1 star and that was for the wine and cheese.

08 March 2018 • 4-Week Beginners Oil Painting Course: Level 1

Great introductory class aimed at people at all levels. Though it probably does hurt if you have picked up a paintbrush before, it's not entirely necessary :) Yummy nibbles and wine is a bonus!

07 March 2018 • 4-Week Beginners Oil Painting Course: Level 1

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 evenings with Kez at Fitzroy Painting. I had no previous experience of painting and everything was explained clearly and engagingly. I got a real sense of accomplishment even after only a few hours. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone and I’ll miss my Wednesday nights in the studio when I forgot the time for three hours. The wine and snacks were delish too!
