Description

Rest in Pieces invites you to attend a day of Entomology.

Museum preparator Nicole Zehntner joins us to share her years of knowledge and experience pinning and preserving insect for museum collections.

Throughout the workshop Nic will teach you basic insect anatomy and safe handling of your specimens, including the correct use of entomology-specific tools and resources. She will demonstrate multiple rehydration and preservation styles and then you will get hands on with four different scientific and decorative pinning techniques using a variety of species including butterflies, moths, dragonflies and stag beetles. You will also learn repair and display techniques, so that your new found skills can be used to make beautiful displays at home.

At the end of the day you will walk away with four pinned specimens including a feature specimen of either a Ulysses or Death's-head Hawk Moth which will be displayed in a shadow box. All tools, specimens, food, wine and aprons are included so that you can sit back and relax and enjoy the day.

Would you like to book one of our take home kits? If the answer is 'YES' simply select the kit option you would like in the Merchandise section. The name of the kit indicates the feature specimen in the kit.

This course served as a great introduction and I am sad that it is no longer offered. I found it was also useful as a way to understand the fundamentals of similar but different programs. I’ve already been able to use this knowledge to create Christmas presents this past year.

Always a great day attended rest in peices work shop, everything was well explained and so much fun, I was laughing the whole day and came away with a beautiful framed butterfly. It’s always something I’ve wanted to learn. Highly recommend x

5 gold stars. 2 thumbs up. Welcoming, lovely, knowledgeable people sharing their time and skills. One of the best things I have ever done was sign up for and partake in the butterflies and bubbles class. Cannot praise or recommend to others enough.
