Description

The basic premise of Gestalt approach to drawing being that “Customary Perception” (drawing what we know) is in conflict with “Aesthetic Perception”(drawing what we see).

In this workshop the emphasis will be on isolating seeing from its normally integrated function.  Personal Expression in your drawing is enhanced as the ability to be expressive is increased in direct proportion to one’s increased ability to see despite common wisdom holding the opposite to be true).

We learnt to see things holistically, essentially to view the mass of an object (or group of objects). The necessity of depicting 3D objects onto a flat 2D drawing surface was both. discussed and explored.

Kay has a relaxed but very professional teaching approach. I have learned quite a few new approaches to drawing a object. Kay was not shy to share a lot of drawing tips and tricks she has discovered over the years. The gestalt technique was new to me but will be used by me a lot more in the future. Thank you Kay, looking forward to a follow up class.
