Description

During this 1 Day Workshop, you will paint atmospheric watercolour paintings using various techniques, including “wet-in-wet”, to help create and interpret the beauty of our diverse landscape.

We will look at how to …

  1. Convey the moods of the landscape from the misty foggy mornings to the hot summer day using cool and warm colours.
  2. Simplify the landscape and create a pleasing, well-balanced composition.
  3. Create texture using different techniques.

Suggested Materials for Workshop  

 Two quarter sheets of Watercolour paper, Rough/ medium, preferably 300 grams  of Arches/Saunders,

Paint. Colours include:

  • Reds- light red (WN), alizarin crimson or permanent rose madder, cadmium red
  • Blues- cobalt, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue
  • Yellows-raw sienna, aureolin /lemon yellow / cad. yellow pale.
  • Burnt sienna
  • Burnt Umber
  • Windsor blue (red) / Pthalo blue
  • Viridian

Palette suitable for mixing paint in.

Sketch book, putty rubber and soft lead pencil

Brushes, 

  • Large wash brush (mop/flat)
  • Flat 1cm (taklon ) brush
  • Liner or rigger brush with long hair, size 4 (taklon).
  • Any round brushes with good points (when wet)
  • An old toothbrush, an old bristle brush and any of your favourites.

Board for attaching stretched paper to.

Gummed tape, masking tape, sea sponge/ kitchen sponge, water container, water spray, gem razor blade, old towel and box of tissues.

Preparing paper, water colour techniques. Ruby was an excellent teacher and the whole day was enjoyable

I enjoyed this workshop very much. It was very interesting with so much information. A great technique workshop. Showing many different things. Ruby was very generous with her skill. I'd love to come to another workshop like this one.
