The Instituto Cervantes is a non-profit organization founded by the government of Spain in 1991. Its mission is to promote Spanish language teaching as well as that of Spain´s co-official languages, in addition to fostering knowledge of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries throughout the world. With 86 education centres in 48 countries and all five continents, we are the largest global network dedicated to the promotion and teaching of Spanish and the vibrant culture it carries around the world. The Instituto Cervantes offers comprehensive Spanish language courses aimed at developing students’ ability to understand, speak, read and write in Spanish. All of our native teachers are university qualified and use the most up-to-date teaching methods. Our special courses are taught by experts in their fields. The classes are in Spanish from day one in every level so our students can communicate in Spanish from the very first moment they start the course. We offer 30 hour general courses, 15 hour courses, private lessons, online courses and, mini groups.


The Instituto Cervantes A.V.E. Our online Spanish courses are called “The Spanish Virtual Classroom” (AVE, in Spanish “Aula virtual de español”) is a virtual environment specially designed by Cervantes Institute for learning and teaching Spanish online as a foreign language.The online instructional material reflects the diversity and richness of the Spanish language, shared by more than twenty countries in the world. The diplomas in Spanish as a foreign language issued by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education takes place every few months of the year. The DELE Exam is the official qualification of competence and command of the Spanish language and is valid all around the world.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:To really get amongst the Latin American and Spanish culture, we often have cultural events every month held at the Institute such as movie night, seminars, concerts, book tours etc..

The Instituto Cervantes is the institution created by Spain in 1991. Since then, it has worked to spread Spanish –it is the largest institution in the world dedicated to teaching Spanish- and to foster the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. The headquarters of the institution are in Madrid.

The Instituto Cervantes operates in 90 cities from 43 countries in the 5 Continents. The Instituto Cervantes Sydney was inaugurated by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, together with the Australian Authorities on June 25th, 2009.

Our institution is in charge of:

- Organizing the exams for the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), as well as to issue official certificates and diplomas for those who attend our courses.

- Organizing Spanish courses.

- Organizing training courses for teachers of Spanish.

- Supporting Hispanists in their activities.Promoting cultural activities in collaboration with other organizations .

The work of the Instituto Cervantes is directed by representatives from the worlds of academia, culture and literature from Spain and Latin America. In Australia we work closely with local museums, galleries, theatres, publishers and universities as well as with Spanish and Latin American organizations.
