Intermediate & Continuing Jewellery Making Course

Description

The Intermediate and Continuing Jewellery Making class is perfect for students with who want to take their making to the next level.   This course is designed to allow students to progress their skill through the different stages of jewellery making, as the tutor assists with design development, technical issues and problem-solving. The pre-requisite for this course is our Beginners course.

Students coming from the Beginners course to the  Intermediate stage 1 Jewellery Making Course will expand upon the fundamentals of jewellery making and design and make pieces which may incorporate a range of materials including metal and non-metal elements.

Stage 2 and 3 Intermediate students continue to build on their skills and learn a range of new techniques and also work on individual projects which are developed after consultation with the tutor.

The Intermediate and Continuing Jewellery Making Course is a composite class made up of students who have completed the Beginners course and are at the Intermediate 1 level as well as students who have completed the Intermediate course and beyond. The aim of this course is to provide students with the confidence and skills to work on individual projects while gaining a greater depth of understanding of jewellery techniques and design.

For those moving from Beginners to intermediate, their first term will involve cold connections. Responding to a brief exploring design principles including line and repetition they will learn riveting as a technique whilst incorporating and practising building upon skills learned in beginners, materials introduced could include titanium, laminex and perspex . Students will also be introduced sweat soldering and more intricate saw piercing as a design feature in their pieces.

In Stage 2 Intermediate (ie after 3 terms at SquarePeg Studios) students will be taught basic bezel setting. We will supply bezel, base and stone so students can choose to make either a ring or a pendant.

In Stage 3 Intermediate (ie after 4 terms at SquarePeg) students will be introduced to equipment like the hydraulic press and will explore making basic hollow forms such as spheres.

Many of our students produce outstanding work and continue to specialised workshops such as Stone Setting or Wax Carving and Casting.

12 September 2017 • Intermediate & Continuing Jewellery Making Course

I have absolutely loved these courses, I started with the beginners class and have continued with the intermediate and continuing jewellery class. I have had both Erin and Emily as teachers, they are both so knowledgeable and eager to pass on their tips and tricks.
