Chasing and Repoussé for Jewellery Workshop

Book Now (http://weteachme.com/l/zHzv3Lxr)

Description

If you love introducing three dimensionality to your metalwork then this workshop is for you!

Learn the foundation skills of the ancient craft of Chasing and Repoussé In this 2-day workshop where students will be introduced to the 3000 year old arts of Chasing and Repoussé.

With the use of simple punches, students will learn to sculpt sheet metal, adding form and detail to create 3D works of art. Students will be guided through the process of basic chasing and texturing to creating deep relief forms, which are further refined through planishing.

Sample plates of chasing and textures will be created with multiple techniques using a variety of punches. Students will then learn the relief embossing process of repoussé, along with the safe handling of pitch and its working characteristics. These relief forms will be chased, textured and planished to bring experimental 3D forms to life.

The final sample will combine the techniques explored while developing an understanding of design composition.

This 2-day intensive course is suitable for intermediate to advanced students.

Students learn foundation skills by working with copper sheet and are welcome to bring along their own silver for sampling. Appropriate silver sheet will also be available to purchase in the studio.

You will learn how to use the specialised tools needed to achieve the twin processes of Chasing and Repoussé alongside learning all about the complimentary set-up required to undertake these hand skills into the future.

26 September 2018 • Chasing and Repoussé for Jewellery Workshop

What a terrific course - the venue, the handy location (under 10mins walk to both Tempe and Marrickville Stations), with friendly staff, not to mention a tutor who certainly knows what he's doing! The tutor's knowledge of the subject is really good, and he's committed and passionate about these techniques. He taught us with sensitivity, but also a disciplined 'take charge' attitude when the limited time frame required it. The spacious work area, coupled with the small group size limit ensured the tutor was able to provide personal attention to each of us whenever it was needed. Overall I felt really well looked after, to the point that I have come away feeling rather competent in my new skills, with my own finished metal samples for each and every process, and comprehensive handouts that include clear photos to help me continue this work into the future. Very impressed with Square Peg!
