The Humble Dumpling

For me, cooking has always been about the sharing of food. It’s about the anticipation of sitting down together and having quality time to talk and share a meal.

I am the daughter of Chinese cooking legend Elizabeth Chong and granddaughter to pioneering and dim-sim inventor William Wing Young.  In so many ways I have always been surrounded by food.  I went on to study  Horticulture but found myself always wanting to plant veggies in peoples front gardens.  Later, I  designed Victoria’s first fully accredited  Asian Cookery course at William Angliss Institute  of TAFE where I taught for nearly 20yrs.


Today, my  business The Humble Dumpling, is a return to my roots and family traditions. I grew up surrounded by aunties, uncles, grandparents and many many cousins who gathered every Sunday to make dumplings.   I have such fond memories of those days and hope that my workshops and events will go some of the way towards sharing my wonderfully rich food culture.

My daughter and I attended the Asian Streetfood workshop at Angie's gorgeous home. This is a well structured workshop with lots of hands-on learning and cooking, from spring onion cake, satay, prawn spring rolls, pork buns and my fave, caramelised pork belly in steamed Bao buns with Asian pickled veg. Angie is a warm and friendly host who also manages to keep everyone on track so we can all sit at a shared table and enjoy the fruits of our labour. Very highly recommended! Vicki F.

Had a wonderful evening learning how to make Asian Street Food. The hours just flew by and at the end we had a the tasty food. The smells the permeated the kitchen were unbelievable! The atmosphere in the kitchen was fantastic everyone chatting and sharing food experience and knowledge. I would highly recommend this course! Many thanks Angie Concetta Gigliotti

Angie’s cooking class is wonderful. She welcomes you into her lovely home and makes you feel more like a friend than a customer. She made a kitchen novice feel confident and accomplished. And all of the food we prepared was delicious. A+ service.
