Sewing with Knits (Stretchy Fabrics) Course✄

Next Available: Tue, 31 Jul 6:00PM
3.0 hours x 2 Weeks

Description

Over 6 hours, you make your choice of traditional unisex T Shirt or a 3/4 length shirt and as you make them you will learn all you need to know about successful sewing with knit fabric.  Sewing with knit fabrics is fantastic. No need for buttons and zips! But they are different to wovens and you need a couple of new skills, techniques and tools.

If you've given it a go and had skipped stitches, puckered seams and general frustrations - we'll help you understand where you were going wrong.

  • Learn to use multiple stretch stitches and understand how to adjust your machine for a great result.
  • Learn to use the overlocker
  • Sew with a twin needles
  • Understand the knit stitches on regular sewing machines

When choosing your fabric, please choose knit fabric with 2 way stretch.  A nice choice is a blend of predominantly natural fibre with some synthetic, for example 95% Merino and 5% Spandex.

This was a great class - I came away far more confident to continue working with knit/ stretch fabrics, there were some great tips along the way and the chance to use both sewing machine and overlocker. I would say there was 'just about' enough time to finish the project in the class. Will definitely come back to learn more.

I learned how to sew knit fabric and use an overlocker. I feel confident now to sew knits at home. The experience was fun and a bit challenging. I would certainly recommend the class to others; really good instruction and good atmosphere.
