Pattern Design: In this class we will show you how to hack a pattern to give you variations and allow you to take some design control. You'll learn how to make this shirt dress utilising only a shirt pattern. This style features a sassy collar with ties, buttons up the centre front and back yoke.

Photographed Sample: This shirt dress has been made from a sheer black woven with pink feature flower buttons.  We've made long collar ties for a cute bow. Ours would need to be worn with a slip!

Notes on styling and supplies: You can choose the length of your dress as well as the width and length of the collar ties.  It is also possible to make this pattern with short or long sleeves (you may need to allow for some homework if you do choose to have sleeves).  This pattern is not suitable for knit fabrics. For directional prints, large prints and fabrics with nap you should purchase extra fabric.  For best results - pre-wash your fabric to reduce shrinkage.  This pattern is designed for making an unlined shirt. With a heavier weight fabric you would not need to wear a slip underneath.

I would highly recommend this course, it was loads of fun, as well as being a great learning opportunity. I had already done the shirt pattern that this dress was based on, but it really helped me to hone those particular skills further, especially buttonholes, and pattern hacking. Amy is a great teacher, very down-to-earth and knowledgeable, and I enjoy her teaching style. The dress turned out really well and I could see how much improved my sewing skills are since I made the pussy bow blouse last year (which I also get compliments for). I am getting loads of compliments about this dress, including one from Amy M, who thought I had bought it in a shop!
