Ruth’s love for textiles has kept her intrigued by exploring the use of recycled materials to create a sustainable craft. She is now in her eighth year of running creative workshops around Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Each year she would normally travel with her trusty van around Australia, teaching craft to people from all walks of life - but of course this is on hold at the moment due to Covid 19. Before she began teaching basket making she trained as a clothing designer in the UK, working with textiles and fashion companies. When she came to Australia set up her own clothing business and later she graduated from Box Hill TAFE with a Visual Arts Diploma and completed a Bachelor of Adult Learning and Development at Monash University. She has taught art and crafts at a tertiary level and also through community education programs, some in very remote areas. She likes to blend the visual arts and the textiles and encourages participants to experiment with their new skills learnt in class
