This ain't your traditional flower arranging class.
In Sydney the options for short courses in floristry are very conservative, old... and kinda boring (sorry Grandma). We wanted to offer a flower arranging class that is creative, inspiring, modern and fun- and the flower gods gave us Christopher.
When he was being trained classically in the fundamentals of floristry, he found it very frustrating that he couldn’t express himself the way he wanted to, finding it difficult to stay enthusiastic about the training. As soon as he began working with other florists, he was shown many other techniques and suddenly the floristry that he had envisioned was unlocked, and he could create what he wanted to create. THIS is what we're giving you.
This class hopes to coax the same sort of creativity out you, and give you the basic foundations of floristry and design in order to create your own arrangements at home, that look great and honour the natural material.
The intention is that you will be able to buy a couple of bunches of flowers from your local farmers market (or take them from your garden!), take these home and have confidence to prepare them properly and create an arrangement that is a bit more interesting than just chucking them in whatever vase you can find at home.
Care and conditioning of materials will be explained and participants will take home 2 luxurious vase arrangements by the end of the class.
- Chris will teach you about the importance of selecting the right materials to build a beautiful arrangement in a vase
- He will show you how to combine colours and textures in arrangements.
- You will learn the basics about selecting fresh, good quality flowers, foliages and sundries
- We will supply all the floral materials from the market, and discuss pricing and value
- Vases, tools and flowers will be supplied.
- Will need a box or large bag to carry arrangements home.
- Notepad and a pen
