27 June 2020 • Absca.nz Maori Flute/ Koauau Workshop

This workshop was absolutely amazing in so many ways, from the start to the finish. Tama provided the tikanga around the koauau, and this being their first workshop for this object, he made pretty sure we all understood the use of this beautiful sounding object. Patience and hands on to help guide us who were not used to using some tools and guiding all the way. A fantastic way to spend my Saturday and I could not be happier with my own koauau. I loved the karakia before commencing, the karakia of a shared kai, the blessing of our own taonga we had just made, and a karakia to end the workshop all made for a moving experience for me. And the sound of the koauau, just gorgeous. It wasn't all too 'serious' for me as a first time attendee to the workshop. The environment was beautiful overlooking the waitakere ranges and great facilities. Thank you to being a fabulous facilitator who understands everything about the tikanga of your craft. Thank you to the participants whom I have made friends with and thank you for just being great at what you do. As a facilitator of art classes myself, I understand the intricacies of facilitating and making people feel at ease and being able to speak openly without any type of fear in many situations. This workshop provided so much more than just making. I enjoyed your wairua and your passion for gifting us your knowledge. “Ngā mihi nui ki a koe

This class was amazing - the team made me feel so welcome and created a really rewarding and educational experience. Really loved the korero around the table while everyone worked, an awesome day!

21 June 2020 • Pounamu Taonga Workshop at Aotearoa Bone and Stone

I attended this workshop with my mother and we both thoroughly enjoyed our day. The teachers were very helpful and the atmosphere with the other learners was great. We will definitely attend another workshop in the future. This is a great way to create with your own hands a special gift for a loved one. I highly recommend absca!
