Kombucha: It's the Tea You See Everywhere
This strange brew might just be the best thing for you
You’ve probably heard of it: kombucha is the latest health drink to cycle back into vogue, especially among those who favour organic beverages. It’s a tart and fizzy drink that’s said to promote weight loss and detoxification, and even make your skin glow and your eyes sparkle.
Kombucha drinkers tout this brew as a panacea— and while that’s yet to be confirmed, it is fair to say there are plenty of proven benefits to reap from the kombucha drink. This fermented miracle drink’s increasing popularity is largely because it contains probiotics or ‘good bacteria’, which also a growing food trend right now. Studies show that probiotics benefit digestion and boost the immune system.
Getting Started
The ingredients used to make kombucha are easy to acquire—only tea leaves, water and sugar. Brewing this drink may seem like a complex affair that requires some scientific know-how and culinary tact, but it’s quite easy to tackle once you learn the recipes and fermentation techniques. We think the real challenge here is to muster the courage to sip on a drink that has a glop of (good!) bacteria and yeast growing over its surface!
