Make Your Teaching Business COVID-Proof
By offering classes online, Soy Candles has expanded their market overseas
SOY CANDLES has been in business for more than a decade. Mainly selling their wares in markets, Frosa was soon invited by CAE to run a class in soap making. It was then that she discovered her true passion: teaching.
Thus, Soy Candles now impart their knowledge in the art and science of candle making, not only to individual crafters, but also in team building sessions and fun events like hens nights.
Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, WeTeachMe launched its Zoom integration feature for teachers looking to teach via the Internet. And Frosa was one of the first few teachers to adopt the Zoom functionality!
For Frosa, finding the platform was already half the problem solved. Having taught craft workshops for many years, she found it relatively easy to make the switch and did it quickly. Once she had completed her setup, it was just a matter of porting their existing in-person content online.
“I use either 2 or 3 cameras to get a front and 2 side views. I have rearranged my workshop and have painted the wall behind me to provide more contrast and brighten up the room.”
When Soy Candles decided to run online classes, it was mainly so they could stay open during the crisis and also to stay connected with their students. As a bonus benefit, Soy Candles has been able to expand its market! Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, Frosa and her team could only cater to residents of Victoria.
