This Barista training course is designed to introduce core Barista skills to people with no previous Barista experience.
You will learn:
- How to identify basic taste differences between arabica and robusta coffees.
- How to identify basic taste differences between lighter and darker roasted coffees.
- The key components of an espresso recipe.
- Fundamental skills for espresso preparation (dosing, distribution, and tamping).
- How to identify correct and incorrect extraction by taste.
- How to calibrate a grinder.
- How to prepare silky smooth milk.
- Beverage preparation routine.
- Hygienic work practices.
- The basics of water quality.
- Daily grinder and espresso machine cleaning.
- Customer service basics.
During the practical activities, you will learn to prepare quality espresso and milk for common espresso based beverages within acceptable timeframes.
Students who successfully complete the online exam after the course receive the internationally recognised SCA Barista Skills Foundation certification. SCA Barista Skills Foundation certification earns credit towards the SCA Cafe Diploma.

Pre-requisites: SCA Introduction to Coffee is a recommended, and all knowledge and skill from that module will be assumed as being held and may be tested through the practical and/or written assessments.

If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

- A refund can be requested 14 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$20.00 applies.
- A transfer can be requested 14 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
