Absca.nz in collaboration with Auckland Council Creative Communities presents the Taonga Puoro Matariki workshop series 2026

Experience the ancient sounds of Aotearoa and join the Absca Team to Learn about Taonga Puoro (treasures that bring sound to life)

In this waananga (workshop) tauira (participants) will learn how to create and play a basic Koauau (Maori Flute) from Bamboo and also a Porotiti (Spinning wind instrument) from native NZ timber.

This Class is free of charge and has been funded by Auckland Council Creative Communities it is open to all ages 

please wear covered shoes and bring a plate for shared lunch

Absolutely loved the experience of Karakia, was a part if whanaungatanga, waiata i hadnt heard, learnt about different tools, grits of sand papers, all round awesome. Kaiako/ teacher she was just beautiful, very patient with me and he had a lot of laughs, the group shated there storys, everyone helped, it was like whsngi whanau for the day. Needed it as my glass was nearly empty. Everyone was there to experience the Māori tikanga n learn the knowledge, which was delivered in a way all could understand. ... id highly recommend. Thank you for a special day, its one like no other.👍👍👍👍👍 Ngā mihi nui ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

OR

  • A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. Free of charge.
  • A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at ABSCA or organised by ABSCA must agree to these terms and conditions.

I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by ABSCA.

2.) PHOTO & VIDEO

I agree to give ABSCA unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at ABSCA classes and events or on ABSCA's premises. (For use of ABSCA marketing materials).
