Course Overview

This hands-on class is designed for anyone who’s curious about brewing, either at home or at the café, making filter brewing simple, approachable, and fun.

With a maximum of four people per session, the class has a very personal and interactive feel. You’ll spend most of the session brewing, tasting, and experimenting with different techniques—so you can build confidence quickly.

Rather than focusing on memorising recipes, we’ll break down the key variables that shape your cup and how to control them. By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of what you enjoy in coffee and how to move towards it with confidence.

You will learn about:

  • Introduction to filter coffee
  • Equipment overview
  • Understanding coffee beans
  • Grinding coffee/ grind size for each method
  • Water quality and brewing techniques
  • Ratio and extraction
  • Tasting, flavor notes and tips

We recommend this course as a wonderful starting point for beginners, home baristas, or anyone that wants to improve their fundamentals with filter coffee. No experience is necessary, but even seasoned baristas can learn a lot in this course!

  • Learn how to make a filter recipe using coffee dose, extraction weight & time.

  • You will receive an Electronic Certificate of Achievement at the completion of the class.

We source our green beans exclusively from Project Origin, Sasa Sestic's ethical green bean trading company. Sasa & his bean hunters travel the world continuously, engaging in direct trade with coffee farmers in order to provide fair income for them and quality control for the coffee . . . which benefits everyone.

Cancellations & Refunds

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

OR

You may cancel anytime before class starts and claim a full refund or transfer or credit note.

We recommend the refund upgrade option upon checkout in case you’re not able to attend the class. Learn more about refund upgrade option.

Terms & Conditions

Thank you for booking an ONA Coffee Barista Course or Gift Certificate.

If you find you are not available to attend the course you have booked, you are welcome to transfer to a different time and/ or date, pending availability. The transfer must be done at least 48 hours, prior to the course commencing. We can offer a refund (less booking fee) when more than 48 hours notice is provided & a refund is requested.

If you transfer or cancel 24-48 hours, prior to the course commencing, there will be a $25 transfer or cancellation fee.

If you find you are not available to attend the course you have booked and give us less than 24 hours notice, you no longer have the option to transfer to another course and will lose your full course fee.

All courses and gift certificates must be used within six months after the purchase date.

Please appreciate that ONA Coffee Barista Courses are very popular and booked 4-6 weeks in advance, if you transfer from a course, we need to fill your place. Thank you.
