Good bugs and bad advice, how do you navigate pest control in the age of climate change and AI? Join us to find out...
As our climate shifts, our suburban gardens are facing new and unexpected challenges. Climate change has enabled Queensland fruit fly to spread south and become endemic in Victoria. Varroa mites are devastating honey bee colonies across eastern Australia, which in turn will affect plant pollination.
At the same time, we are being bombarded with advice on what to do about these threats - often from uninformed sources. In an age where anyone can share garden tips online - e.g. on Facebook groups - how do we assess the integrity of the information we find? How can we tell if online pest control advice is based on real science?
This one hour Master Class delivered by Denis Crawford will help you cut through the noise. You will be guided to trusted websites and books so you can identify pests and good bugs in your garden with confidence.
The talk will discuss how to protect and encourage the beneficial insects you find in your garden. You will also learn how to manage pest species sustainably - watch out for the myth busting segment! We will also explore how community-wide efforts are vital for tackling serious pests such as Queensland fruit fly and cabbage white butterfly.
Note - All attendees receive a link to a recording to revisit the session for two weeks. Friends of SGA receive a 15% discount on Master Class full price tickets. You can become a Friend of SGA here. Green Garden Professional (GGPs) receive a 30% discount.
