Join resident artist Florence Ulutunu for an immersive 2-day workshop where you will be guided through the complete making process of siapo, the traditional Sāmoan barkcloth.
Throughout the workshop, you will learn the full siapo-making process, exploring the techniques from preparation to finishing. You will also develop an understanding of the deep cultural stories and significance woven into the art of siapo, connecting with the fanua (land/environment) and the traditional tools while learning a treasured cultural practice. Furthermore, participants will have the chance to experiment with their own creativity through the making process.
This is a 2-day workshop, participants will need to attend both sessions.

Florence Ulutunu is a multidisciplinary artist of Sāmoan decent, her heritage connecting her to the villages of Si’umu, Sāmusu, Sātupa’itea and Faleū. Her current work focuses on the revival of siapo making and exploring the relationship between practice and identity.

- Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
- Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.

- Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.

- Cancellation by participant within 10 days or on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given. You may nominate someone else to take your place before the class starts.
