If your fruit trees have grown too tall, are hard to manage, or seem to need constant feeding and pest control, this session will help you get them back on track. In this one-hour online class, you’ll learn practical ways to prune, feed and care for your fruit trees so they stay healthy, productive and easy to look after.
Led by horticulturist Craig Castree, the session will cover: • How knowing whether your tree fruits on new or old wood affects when and how you prune, and how this links to sap flow and tree shape • A simple pruning technique called undercutting that can turn watershoots into fruiting spurs and reduce unwanted growth • Why keeping trees at a manageable size helps protect your fruit from pests like Queensland fruit fly and makes picking much easier • How to feed your fruit trees naturally by improving soil health, fixing compaction and adding organic matter around the drip line • How understory companion plants can support your trees by creating habitat and helping mimic a healthy, natural ecosystem
The session will look at common stone fruits (peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, cherries) and pommes (apples, pears, nashi).
By the end, you’ll understand how to shape and care for fruit trees so they need far less pruning in the long run, giving them the best chance of staying strong and productive for years to come.
All sessions are recorded and those booked in will receive the recording link which is active for two weeks. Friends of SGA receive a 15% discount on Master Class full price tickets. You can become a Friend of SGA here. Green Garden Professional (GGPs) receive a 30% discount.
