Over six intensive days you’ll undergo rigorous training and assessment in cupping, sensory analysis, and green coffee evaluation.

The updated curriculum is designed for experienced cuppers, and integrates the latest advancements in coffee science and industry best practices to build your sensory acuity and the ability to evaluate coffee.

Learners will test their skills in detecting differences and defects, describing sensory profiles, and applying Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) tools in real-world contexts.

Graduates earn the globally respected Q Grader license - a mark of excellence recognised across the coffee value chain - and join a global network of roasters, importers, producers, and traders united by a shared understanding of quality that drives buying, selling, and assurance throughout the industry.

You will learn

  • Sensory and green coffee evaluation skills required for coffee evaluation across the coffee supply chain.
  • Successful completion of the exams earns the Q Grader License.

You will get

  • Test your skills at identifying physical and sensory defects.
  • Test your triangulation skills.
  • Test your ability to consistently describe sensory profiles of coffee, and rate impressions of quality.

Appropriate for

This course is for experienced cuppers. No prerequisites are required. Completion of SCA Sensory Skills Intermediate and SCA Green Coffee Intermediate are recommended.

Your Teacher

Simon James is an AST and Q Instructor with over 25 years experience in the coffee industry, and over 20 years training experience including:

  • AST for Sensory Skills, Green Coffee, Brewing, and Barista Skills since 2015.
  • CVA instruction within the SCA Sensory Skills curriculum since early 2024.
  • Lead instructor at SCA/SCAE sanctioned barista camps in Italy, Estonia, Poland, and Taiwan.

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

OR

  • A refund can be requested 14 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$20.00 applies.
  • A transfer can be requested 14 days before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.
