We are a contemporary jewellery studio and gallery run by local jeweller Philip Noakes, who has over forty years experience in making and teaching in the industry. Philip has exhibited extensively around Australia, and makes his own work and private commisions, as well as teaching from the studio.

Contemporary Metal offers jewellers and students access to a fully equipped studio including: rolling mill, soldering and melting torches, pendant drills, vacuum casting, vulcaniser and wax injector, hydraulic press, lathe, tumbler, polisher, ultrasonic, large dapping sets and lapidary equipment.

We have benches available for hire on a casual, weekly or ongoing basis.

Absolutely fabulous course. Can highly recommend.

Loved this workshop - and loved the Silversmithing one day course making a copper bowl. The hammering to a dome is so meditative! I've previously done some silver work courses with other workshops and really liked the work spaces at Contemporary Metal. I will be back for further courses.

20 June 2020 • Silversmithing Skills (Day Class)

Great day, thank you! In a few short hours we learnt new and essential skills, with honest, expert and constructive guidance. Phil’s studio and his team provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where the genuine humble passion for this craft shines through! Regardless of experience or skill level you will be made to feel welcome and ever so slightly accomplished!
