Community Planting Day

Community Planting Day

Be a part of the revegetation project

Over 50 people have attended this class

Description

The Friends of Edendale are looking for volunteers to join the first community planting day for 2025

Essential to the success of this revegetation is the involvement of our community volunteers who have very generously supported us since the inception of the project in getting some 2000 plants into the ground. Our target for 2025 is an additional 1000 plants planted on our community planting days.

The implementation of this exciting project focusses on the vital importance of the Diamond Creek as a wildlife corridor / bio link. This project started in 2022 under the generous support of Melbourne Water through their Planting4Platypus initiative.

Over the three years 2024 to 2027, this project is being funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with the support of Edendale Farm (Nillumbik Shire) and the Friends of Edendale.

This funding is enabling us to continue revegetation to restore the riparian indigenous vegetation community and the opportunity to expand our revegetation to the steeper banks of the Diamond Creek to rehabilitate the potential for platypus habitat. We will also be able to develop signage that explains the project and the role it plays providing information on the flora and fauna and a range of activities that encourage active participation in learning about the environmental importance of waterways as wildlife corridors.

Please wear / bring along:

  • Long pants - not leggings - that come down to cover your ankles and the top of your footwear
  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Sturdy footwear and socks to cover ankles
  • Broad brimmed hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Raincoat if required

We would love to see you there.

Booking a Ticket

Booking a spot is important so that we know the numbers of people attending and can plan the extent of planting on the day, and also inform you of any changes or additional information important to the day.

But ‘drop ins’ are welcome to register and attend on the day too.

Please note that children must be accompanied by adults at all times.

We would love to see you there.

Well organised. Friendly atmosphere, and great to see everyone working together as a team. It was nice to have some young teenagers get involved and give back to the community and show the importance of planting for a healthy environment. Thank you for the opportunity to get involved for a great cause.
