Introduction to Beekeeping

Introduction to Beekeeping

To bee or not to bee

Over 20 people have attended this class

Description

These autumn school holidays why not join a fun and informative introduction to bees and beekeeping workshop? It is great for adults and/or families considering introducing a beehive into their home garden.

This workshop will cover an overview of bee life cycles, seasonal behaviour and the importance of bees in our world. Find out what is involved in becoming a beekeeper for the first time- including equipment, regulations and safety. Children are welcome but do not require a ticket to attend.

Bronwyn Woods

My interest in bees began in 1999 while I was undertaking my undergraduate Science degree. I went on from that degree to complete a Masters in Sustainability, where my continued interest in the way people interact with their surrounding environment, was fostered while working for the then Department of Sustainability.

Living in most states in Australia I made my way back to Victoria in 2014 with my family. The purchase of a small hobby farm coupled with a passion for permaculture, drove me to conclude that the prioritisation of soil health and bees, would see us well on the way to our goal of self-sustainability. In late 2018 we purchased ‘Bob’s Beekeeping Supplies’ and we are proud to be able to continue to support and nurture the beekeeping community of Victoria and the rest of Australia. Our Beginner Beekeeping courses are known through-out Australia due to our style of interactive teaching, and we are proud of the level of competency that our graduates demonstrate.

My passion for the younger generation to understand where their food has come from, has recently led to a new arm of the business dedicated to children, ‘Bitti Beeks’. This allows children to be fully involved with this hobby while having the confidence of ultimate protective gear. It has been wonderful seeing my own children becoming just as fascinated by bees, as I am.

We currently manage between 4 and 10 hives in our Apiary that are used for education purposes and 1 hive that is dedicated to producing our family honey.
